For all sad words of tongue and pen, the saddest are these, 'It might have been.'
John Greenleaf WhittierThis site was made in memory of our beautiful daughter Calypso Paikea Rhyder who was born on June 14, 2007 at 29 weeks 5 days. She was 3 lbs 1.9 oz and 13" long. She passed away on July 7, 2007 at 23 days old due to Renal Failure a complication of a severe infection known as NEC (Necrotizing Enterocolitis)
Calypso's 2 year angel day is on July 7, 2009. If you could please light a candle and spread the word that it's her day, I'd really love some angel day candles.
Her first name Calypso comes from the Greek Sea Nymph Calypso who by seafolk was referred to as a Goddess. Her middle names Paikea Rhyder come from the Maori legend of Paikea the whale rider. Paikea also means Humpback Whale in Maori. So we chose Paikea Rhyder to mean Whale Rider.

The Song playing is Japanese, it's a lullaby from an anime and is called
'The Story that the Stars Sing' here's an English Translation of it
Let us offer up to the light that resides in our hearts,
an old tale of a country awaiting its awakening...
Our wishes become stars, which can see tomorrow...
My love, please wait for me....
The profile of my destined one is standing in my mind's eye...
Let us ignite the light which protects our dreams...
The stars inform me to choose only one...
If the person I love calls me, I will change...
Let us shoulder the light of the priestess's life
upon our gracefully dancing wings of purity...
Go to sleep in the arms of the one you love,
who in order for you to become a star, should not have been born.

We little knew that morning that God
was going to call your name
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
You did not go alone;
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
Your love is still our guide;
And though we cannot see you,
You are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
And nothing seems the same;
but as God calls us, one by one,
The Chain will link again.

THE SHIP OF LIFE
by John T. Baker
Along the shore I spy a ship
As she sets out to sea;
She spreads her sails and sniffs the breeze
And slips away from me.
I watch her fading image shrink,
As she moves on and on,
Until at last she’s but a speck,
Then someone says, “She’s gone.”
Gone where? Gone only from our sight
And from our farewell cries;
That ship will somewhere reappear
To other eager eyes.
Beyond the dim horizon’s rim
Resound the welcome drums,
And while we’re crying, “There she goes!”
They’re shouting, “Here she comes!”
We’re built to cruise for but a while
Upon this trackless sea
Until one day we sail away
Into infinity.

This is one of Calypso's lullabys
Candlelight dies at the window
And the night wind blows soft from the sea
Though I lie in your arms, I'm a thousand miles away
On the waves sailing fast, sailing free
Now I'm bound for the heart of the ocean
I'm riding the sea in my soul
In the dark and the deep
She will rock me to sleep
Down below... where the black waters roll
When the sea birds cry out in the morning
And the sun lays its kiss on the sand
I'll be drawn to the shore
Like so many times before
As I long to be far from the land.
Now I'm bound for the heart of the ocean
I'm riding the sea in my soul
In the dark and the deep
She will rock me to sleep
Down below... where the black waters roll
I can still hear your voice on the trade winds
I can still taste your tears on the foam
But the lure of the tide that I'm feeling inside
Will not rest till my heart finds its home
Now my heart is the heart of the ocean
There are storms from the sea in my soul
I'm restless and deep
And before I can sleep
I must go... where the black waters roll
where the black waters roll
